Parents
The Adult & Community Education program offers classes to adults of any age who are interested in learning new hobbies and skills. There are a wide range of classes offered which highlight the knowledge and talents of our very own community members.
Winter 2023-2024 Classes:
Class #1: Chinese Appetizers:
Instructor: Tom Sharp
Dates: Saturday November 18th , 2023 CHANGED to December 9th
Times: 10:00am - 2:00PM
Location: SGHS Family & Consumer Science Room 21 Spring Drive, Big Timber
Class Description: Gear up for the holiday and Super Bowl with some simple tasty appetizers that will impress your family and friends. We may add a non- Chinese dish in there just because. Class is limited to 6 people. Class will cost $10 for supplies.
Class #2: Quiet Your Mind
Instructor: Melissa Mooreland
Dates: Wednesdays starting 12-6, 12-20, 01-03, 01-17, 01-31 & 02-07
Times: 6:00pm thru 7:00 pm
Location: SGHS Conference room
Class Description: Begins with tea…heated water and tea provided (please bring a mug). Followed by a short guided breathwork session to calm the nervous system (for those of us who are feeling overwhelmed, scattered and/or anxious this will be enormously helpful before we begin to meditate).
Then a 20 minute guided meditation (working towards a longer, silent meditation). After meditating we will read from a book regarding- gratitude, kindness, kind acts, etc. Goodbyes-thank you’s, see you next time’s and so glad you came will be at the close. Bring a blanket(s), something cushy to sit on and your favorite mug… see you there! Class is limited to 12 people.
Class #3: Good Old Fashioned Kitchen to Table

Date: January 14th
Times: 2:00pm
Location: SGHS Family & Consumer Science Room
Class Description: Bring your large soup pot to the container. Learn how to make fresh Chicken & Dumplings soup, made from scratch with fresh ingredients. Class is limited to 12 people. Class will be $35 for supplies.
Class #4:Biscuits & Gravy and Homemade Breakfast Cereal.

Class Description: Let's make breakfast together! Learn how quick and easy it is to make tender, flaky biscuits with smooth and creamy sausage gravy. We will also be making our own breakfast cereal! Class is limited to 12 people. Class will be $35 for supplies.
Class #5: Candied Cranberry Cheesecake with White Chocolate Mousse
Instructor: Krystal Wagner
Date: January 28th
Times: 2-5
Location: SGHS Family & Consumer Science Room
Class Description: Let's make dessert together! Learn how to bake a simple cheesecake and dress it up with cranberry jam, candied cranberries, and white chocolate mousse! Please bring a springform pan. Class is limited to 12 people. Class will be $35 for supplies.
Class #6: Circuit Training
Instructor: Melissa Moorehead
Date: Starting Monday November 13th
Times: 6-7
Location: SGHS Weightroom
Class Description: This is an intermediate, endurance training class.
Would you like to keep your energy levels up over the long winter months while burning off more cookie and pie calories (i.e. increase your post workout calorie burn)? Then this might be the class for you! This workout is timed, uses gym equipment, body weight, as well as weights. Please dress in gym clothes, clean grippy shoes and water…see you soon! This class is limited to 12 people.
Class #7 Beginner Pickleball:
Instructor: Joan McDaniel
Date: Starting Tuesday January 9th -30th
Times: 2pm-4pm
Location: Civic Center
Class Description: Learn the basics of beginner Pickleball. You should be physically fit and able to bend your knees and move side to side without difficulty. It is a fun sport but does require mobility to play the game safely.
No slip on shoes or hiking boots. Tennis shoes, or court shoes, are the best. This class is limited to 12 people.
Class #8 Ceramics:
Instructor: Salena Spees
Date: Starting Tuesdays Nov. 28th, Dec 5th, 12th, 19th & pickup on the 21st.
Times: 6pm-9pm
Location: SGHS Art Room
Class Description: This class is meant for adults who are interested in learning the basics of sculpting, slab, and wheel throwing. This will be an introduction course, learning to throw a mug or bowl on the wheel, create a decorative slab tray, and sculpt a holiday sculpture. This class is limited to 10 people. Class will be $50 for supplies
Class one (3 hours)- Throw 2 items
Class two (3 hours)- Sculpt and slab and trim
Class three (3 Hours)- Finish/Start glazing
Class Four ( 3 hours)- Glaze
