ADULT EDUCATION

The Adult & Community Education program offers classes to adults of any age who are interested in learning new hobbies and skills. There are a wide range of classes offered which highlight the knowledge and talents of our very own community members. As we are getting back into the swing of things, please make sure to check this page regularly to see the classes we will be offering. This page will be updated with information as we schedule classes. To register for classes, fill out the registration form below or contact Kasey Stephens at the high school.

Winter 2021-2022 Classes:

  • Ceramics

    • Instructor: Salena Spees

    • Dates: Wednesdays: December 1st - January 19th

    • Time: 6:00 - 9:00 pm

    • Location: SGHS Art Classroom

    • Class Description: In this 8-week class you will learn the basics of throwing on the wheel, sculpture, and slab. You will be able to throw bowls, mugs, create platters and unleash your creative side! Class is limited to 8 people.

    • Cost: $85 (price includes all 8 classes)

  • Photography 101: The Basics

    • Instructor: Mayzie Purviance Cremer

    • Dates: Thursdays: December 2nd - March 24th

    • Time: 6:00 - 7:30 pm

    • Location: SGHS English Classroom (Mrs. Lannen's classroom)

    • Class Description: This is a 15-week digital photography class where Mayzie will teach you everything she knows about taking a decent photo. From basic shooting to advanced editing, she will do her best to turn you into a better photographer. Classes will consist of learning basic photography skills and concepts, as well as peer review and discussion of student photos. Information about the equipment requirements will be provided to those who register. You have the option to use your own equipment or borrow the High School's . Class is limited to 20 people.

  • Weightlifting

    • Instructor: Jason Ferguson

    • Dates: Tuesdays: December 28th, January 4th, 11th, 18th

    • Time: 4:00 - 4:30 pm

    • Location: SGHS Weight Room

    • Class Description: Join Jason in the weight room to learn some basic weightlifting techniques and safety. Class is limited to 8 people.

    • Cost: $20 (price includes all 4 classes)

  • Meal Prep

    • Instructor: Natasha Stenberg

    • Date: Wednesday, January 12th

    • Time: 6:00 - 7:00 pm

    • Location: SGHS FCS Room

    • Class Description: Natasha Stenberg is a Registered Dietitian and a mother of four, so she knows a thing or two about making a healthy meal with little time to spare! Join her and learn some meal prepping techniques to make your meals healthier and more enjoyable to make no matter now hectic your schedule may be. Sign up on your own or with a friend! Class is limited to 10 people (2 per kitchen space). Please indicate if you will be registering on your own or with a partner.

    • Cost: $20

  • Beginning Crochet Skills

    • Instructor: Amy Krum

    • Dates: Wednesdays: January 19th, 26th, February 2nd, 9th

    • Time: 6:30-7:30 pm

    • Location: SGHS Library

    • Class Description: In this 4-week class you will learn the basic chains and stitches to lay the foundation for crochet crafts and projects. Participants will need a skein of worsted weight yarn (acrylic preferred) and a size H (5mm) hook. Class is limited to 6 people.

    • Cost: $50 (price includes all 4 classes)

  • Chinese Cuisine

    • Instructor: Tom Sharp

    • Date: Saturday, January 22nd

    • Time: 11:00 am - 3:00 pm

    • Location: Tom's House- more information will be given upon registration

    • Class Description: Enjoy tasty Chinese Cuisine without having to order takeout! Tom will show you some basic techniques for cooking come of these unique and delicious meals. Class is limited to 6 people.

    • Cost: $25

  • Pickleball

    • Instructor: Joan McDaniel & Jackie Franklin

    • Dates: Session 1= Tuesdays: December 7th - January 11th Session 2= Tuesdays: January 18th - February 22nd

    • Time: 5:30 - 7:00 pm

    • Location: Civic Center

    • Class Description: Lace up your shoes and join Jackie and Joan for 12 weeks of fun! Learn the basic fundamentals and strategies of Pickleball and become a life-long enthusiast of this popular pastime. Each session is limited to 6 people. You are welcome to sign up for both sessions.

    • Cost: $50 (price includes all 6 classes in a session)
