What a HUGE weekend it was for the Herders! First, CONGRATULATIONS to the FFA teams who competed at State over the weekend. The Livestock team and the Mechanics team both took home FIRST PLACE! The Farm Business Management team placed 4th and the Sales team placed 7th. Big Timber FFA was also awarded 2nd place Sweepstakes Award for the best overall team! Individually, we had several students place in the top 10 as well: For Mechanics, Guildy Browning placed 1st, Jake Chulyak placed 2nd and Avery Durfee placed 9th. For Livestock, David Paul Hathaway placed 2nd overall. For Farm Business Managament, Jake Chulyak placed 6th and Colter Fleming placed 7th. For Extemporaneous Speaking, Jake Chulyak placed 3rd overall. Second, the Track team participated in their first meet of the season on Saturday at the Pre-Season Class B Meet in Lockwood. The Girls team placed 1st with three athletes and the 4x100 relay team exceeding the pre-qualification standards for state. Alyssa Boshart placed 1st in the 100m and 200m, qualifying for state in both events. Kameryn Ketcham placed 2nd in the 800m, 4th in the triple jump with a PR, and also got a PR in the long jump. Natalie Wood placed 2nd in the 1600m beating her previous PR by 10 seconds, and placed 2nd in the 3200m, pre-qualifying her for state in both events. Emily Cooley placed 1st in the long jump, 2nd in the high jump and 3rd in the shot put. She pre-qualified for state in the long jump and high jump. Ella Stosich placed 5th in the 800m and Anaya Hope placed 6th in the 100m hurdles. The girls 4x100m relay team (Emily Cooley, Aley Aller, Bailey Finn and Alyssa Boshart) placed 1st and qualified for state. Paige Whalin recorded PRs in the high jump, long jump and triple jump. Paige Wertheimer placed 8th in the discus. The Boys team placed 6th overall. Gage McGillvray placed 4th in the 200m. In the 300m hurdles, Colter Fleming placed 3rd with a PR and Caleb Stosich placed 5th. Ty Cowell placed 6th in the shot put with a PR. He also placed 7th in the discus. The boys 4x100m relay team (Sage Nation, Kuirt Gullings, Colter Fleming and Gage McGillvray) placed 3rd. The boys 4x400m relay team (Colter Fleming, Zane Cox, Caleb Stosich and Gage McGillvray) placed 5th. Kade Gardiner placed 8th in the discus. In the Javelin, Sage Nation placed 8th and Kuirt Gullings placed 10th. Kuirt Gullings also placed 9th in the long jump. After the first week of track meets, the following Herder athletes have earned state rankings for all classes combined: Alyssa Boshart is tied for 2nd in the 100m and holds a 2nd place ranking in the 200m. Emily Cooley is tied for 4th in the high jump and holds a 3rd place ranking in the long jump. Natalie Wood is ranked 2nd in the 1600m and 3rd in the 3200m. The girls 4x100m relay team is ranked 2nd. Next, the Boys & Girls Golf teams hosted their home meet on Saturday. Congratulations to Abby Laverell for placing in the top 10 for the girls and Seth Shepard for placing in the top 20 for the boys. Lastly, the Softball team came home with a big 21-2 win over Lockwood on Saturday. Congratulations to all of our Herders on a job well done!

Good Luck to the JV Golf team who kicks off the spring competition season today in Shepherd! Also- Congratulations to the FFA students who competed in the first round of State CDEs/LDEs on Monday and Tuesday in Miles City! The Meats Evaluation team placed 2nd with Morgan Anderson placing 1st, Weston Sondeno placing 5th, Rylee Swartz placing 6th and Mollie Mae Ruth placing 7th individually. The Food Science team, made up of Kira Krug, Zoey Aller, Nathan Laubach and Madi Wolfe, placed 7th. Last Wednesday a group pf students spent the day at MSU in Bozeman competing in the Academic Olympics. Both teams that competed made it to the 8th round (12 rounds total) and narrowly missed advancing. Congratulations to our Academic Olympians on their hard work and success in a very difficult competition!

Attention all students eligible for Driver's Ed! There is still space in Class 2 for Driver's Ed this year. Classroom instruction for Class 2 will be held on: May 9, 10, 12, 16, 17, 19, 23, 24, 31 and June 2nd from 6:00-8:00pm in the SGHS Library. The driving portion of this class will start on June 3rd. Please complete the form below and return it to the High School to get registered! The cost for this class is $300.00.

So far we have some fantastic local businesses signed up, but we would love to pack our gym and show our students all the great opportunities Big Timber and Sweet Grass County have to offer!
